So…No More Omelettes?
By Nate • Feb 18th, 2009 • Category: PoliticsIn a move that stuns me personally, North Dakota’s House has passed a bill today that outlaws abortion. By a 54-41 vote, the House passed the bill stating that a fertilized egg has all the same rights as any person.
Hold up. Seriously?
Sure, North Dakota is a pretty conservative state. The last time that they voted for a democratic President was in ‘64 for Lyndon Johnson. But they do sport two long-serving Democratic Senators and came remarkably close to going for Obama last fall. They’ve even passed legislation making it legal for farmers to grow hemp. In short, my personal experiences and my general feeling about North Dakota have always made me assume that it was at least a pragmatic state.
Now, well, it’s no better than South Dakota.
