Rudy CAN Fail
By Nate • Jan 4th, 2008 • Category: Politics
Yeah, someone had to make a Clash reference in regards to the results of the Iowa caucus last night. Rudy “For Crying Out Loud, I Was At 9/11!!!!” Giuliani came in a disappointing (for him, it’s actually great news for America) fourth, behind internet crush Ron Paul. Hopefully, this is a trend that continues, because fear-mongering your way to president should really only fool us twice. Fool us twice, you…won’t fool me again? God, I hope so.
I have to say, though, I thought that this bastardization of a song title would make for a great headline only. I didn’t actually take the lyrics of the song into account. Surprisingly, once I actually looked them up, they fit rather well. Here they are, with some of the more appropriate passages in bold.
Sing, michael, sing-on the route of the 19 bus
Hear them sayin
How you get a rude and a reckless?
Dont you be so crude and a feckless
You been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie cant fail
So we reply
I know that my life make you nervous
But I tell you that I cant live in service
Like the doctor who was born for a purpose***
Rudie cant fail
I went to the market to realise my soul
cause what I need I just dont have
First they curse, then they press me till I hurt
We say rudie cant fail
We hear them sayin
Now first you must cure your temper
Then you find a job in the paper
You need someone for a saviour
Oh, rudie cant fail
We reply
Now we get a rude and a reckless
We been seen lookin cool an a speckless
We been drinking brew for breakfast
So rudie cant fail
Okay!
So where you wanna go today?
Hey boss man!
Youre looking pretty smart
In your chicken skin suit
You think youre pretty hot
In your pork pie hat
But…rudie cant fail
Look out, look out…
Sky juice!…10 cents a bottle!
Rather appropriate, dontcha think? I do. Gave me a chuckle. Gotta think that ol’ Joe is sitting up there in heaven getting a laugh about it, as well.
Oh, one more note from the Giuliani camp. Apparently, this fourth-place finish in Iowa doesn’t much worry Rudy. Guess what does, or did:
“None of this worries me — Sept. 11, there were times I was worried.”
-Rudy Giuliani, as quoted in the New York Daily News .
Really? I wasn’t aware he was involved with that whole September 11th thing…weird.
Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."

Not to be a stickler, guy, but I think he actually finished sixth, not fourth. Although he did beat Alan Keyes AND Duncan Hunter, so he can still be pretty proud about that.
You’re right, Erik. I somehow transposed his percentage points (4%) with his placing.
This is why we need a fact-checker.
