MATT DAMON!!! (talks about Sara Palin)

I’ve always kind of liked Matt Damon. I know that you have, too. He’s just plain likable. With that gigantic forehead and massive cranium, that every guy look about him and the fact that he’s reeeealy short. He’s not intimidating for us guys, because even though we like Matt Damon, we secretly know that we’re better looking, plus he’s very approachable for girls, because too many movie stars today are simply unattainable (like that Jim Belushi, can’t touch that guy).

Imagine my surprise when I watch this little video here:

Matt Damon knows him some politics! I knew he could kick some European and CIA ass and was really good at math and that he really enjoyed asking pony-tailed douchebags whether or not they enjoyed their apples, but politics? Way to be both a celebrity AND informed about politics, Matt Damon. Good on ya!

Now, if our media could just be as curious about this Sarah Palin character as Good Will Hunting, maybe the rest of us wouldn’t also be stuck asking these same questions. Get your head out of your asses, major newspapers, news networks and political magazines!

I’m not necessarily saying that I want you all to dig up dirt on this hockey mom, but it would help to have some substinative background on her life as a public figure. She’s only running for Vice President of the country, I think we deserve to know what kind of politician she’s been. As it is, we know that her husband’s won a bunch of snowmobile races, her daughter is the town mattress and got knocked up because of it, and that Mrs. Palin recklessly endangered her downs-syndrome baby by flying back to Alaska from Texas after her water broke.

While that’s all riveting stuff and all, I think that we at least deserve some real information, folks. Otherwise, we’ll all end up like the bad version of our buddy Jason Bourne here,

Oh, and before I forget, Rik, that’s just a little too much Kenny Loggins for me. I’d watch it, the way you’re going, you’re headed RIGHT INTO THE DANGER ZONE!!

Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."

  1. Matt Damon rocks… who knew? He could be the Fred Thompson of the Democratic 2016 primaries… except he’ll be a tad, I say a tad bit more eloquent.

And who knew Kenny Loggins and Danger Zone/Top Gun would be so prolific? Heading in to the danger zone… Maverick… Ice Man… All directly related to Palin, McCain, and Obama… eerie.

Here’s a funny shirt that sums up what I’m trying to convey:
No Country For Old Men T Shirt

  2. When I first read about this yesterday, my first thought was, oh my goodness, another celebrity opening their yap. Then my thought was , I wish they would just stick with acting and shut up. But then I opened my mind and paid attention and realized that he knew what he was talking about. The fact that I like him as an actor helps, too.

  3. MATT DAMON is losing fans every minute.Women just love GOV. PALIN, He needs to talk about issues not personalitys.

  4. m72 talks about Damon losing fans but it’s the chance celebrities take when they voice their thoughts about a particular subject. He’s an American is free to say whatever he wants because we live in a free society. I may not agree with him or what other celebrities have to say, including attacks on personalities, but I will defend his right to speak his mind. But, as Tom Cruise, for example, has learned, this may be a free country, but the people are free to decide how they feel about you, too, and sometimes it shows at the box office.

  5. Mostly, I’m just amused that the new argument is talking about “issues not personalitys [sic]” when this Palin chick appears to have nothing going for her but her personality. I watched her interview with Charles Gibson last night, and as near as I can tell, she seems to be about as prepared to be president as one of the local check-out clerks at Wal-Mart. Is this one of the issues that we need to discuss? Because I’d be more than happy to talk about that.

  6. That guy is an idiot. I’m sure he knows the exact date of the diansour’s extinction. Very scary, yes a unskilled, unaccomplished, community organizer is a much better choice. I’m sure his fancy oratory will do a lot in the way of talking down Putin. You Libs are freaking insane, narrow minded, and in the end make it easier for Conservatives and thus Republicans to win. Here’s a thought - have some substance behind the emotion. If Obama had any he’d be winning right now, but everyone can see through it and if Holden Caufield were here right now he’d call him a goddamn phony.

  7. Somebody’s got a case of the grumbles.

  8. Is it telling that the two people defending Palin had horrendous misspellings on their comments? (personalitys, diansour’s) Or, is it elitist for me to point that out?

Look, Matt’s not claiming to know when dinosaurs roamed the earth and he’s not attacking personality. He’s asking pointed questions that we all know have been asked about Obama. In fact, Obama’s been through more of a ringer than Palin ever will, for two reasons. a) He’s running for PRESIDENT. b) He’s not a woman.

Face it, the media is squeamish about taking Palin to task for so many things, or at least holding her accountable, because she’s a woman, and the McCain campaign is using that to their advantage. Every comment that anyone makes about Palin is either sexist or an attack on her integrity just like any comment anyone makes about McCain gets rebuffed with the well-worn fact that he’s a P.O.W.. They’re a paper tiger campaign unless the prove otherwise, and right now, they have not done that.

So, Dan and m72, neither one of you have a valid point at all. If I were you, I’d do your homework on your own candidate and then get back to me. If you feel comfortable with having that woman one step away from the presidency after doing some un-biased, fact-based research, I’ll at least have respect for you having made the effort, even if I will still pity you for your stupidity.

It’s not that she’s a woman. It’s that she’s an utterly unqualified woman. If McCain had picked Kay Bailey Hutchinson, I still probably wouldn’t like her so much, but I’d at least respect her experience and record. The problem is, McCain and his handlers obviously think one woman is just as good as another and decided to pick a young, attractive one to mute the fact that McCain is a frail-looking, multiple-cancer survivor who just turned 72 years old.

Oh, and Dan, I’m a registered Independent. I would have loved for Obama to pick Chuck Hagel from Nebraska as his running mate, because I respect principled politicians, no matter what party they belong to, even if I disagree with their views. The simple fact of the matter is, in this election, the person who speaks to me most is Obama, not McCain. So, don’t be so quick to throw out your “liberals” card, fella.

One more thing: Holden Caufield is a fictional character. Despite that, I doubt that he’d give two shits about the election, were he real.

  9. Holden Caufield was also, on top of being a fictional character, a person who starts out his story a jaded, bitter, cynical ass and completes his journey as, still, a jaded, bitter, cynical ass. So, in that sense, I can see why he would be a McCain supporter. That does seem to be their common glue.

Interesting statement to make, though. As a counter statement, I’d just like to say that if Mickey Mouse was here right now, he would whistle a jaunty tune while steering a steamboat down the river.

  10. Dan,

If you are so sure what Holden Caufield would think then clearly you must be a fan of Catcher in the Rye.

How then, do you explain your defense of a mayor who contemplated banning books in her town library? Having such clairvoyance on the novel you must know that Catcher in the Rye is one of the most commonly banned books in the us [ see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_commonly_challenged_books_in_the_U.S. ] primarily for the repeated use of the word “goddamn”.

Please tell me how you rationalize supporting someone who clearly does not stand for freedom of expression. That same expression that you so eloquently referenced in implying that a fictional character would think Barrack Obama was a “goddamn phony”

  11. I do like Matt Damon…but I honestly am a supporter of Sara Palin…I think it’s so unfair about how they are just digging into her personal life, yes I get that’s what happens with politics but at the same time, I do think she’s a great choice for McCain’s running mate. I think she would be a great Vice President and she does seem ready to take the job. I mean look at everything she has done for Alaska. With her and McCain, we will be able to see some change in our government and hopefully our economy as well.

  12. Okay, dreamr82, tell me five things that Palin has “done for Alaska.” Tell me why she’s qualified to be one step away from the Presidency. Y’know, what makes her “seem ready to take the job.”

Honestly, what kind of change is McCain going to bring to our government that he hasn’t for the last 26 years? Has he been holding out on us all this time? You do realize that McCain’s campaign only started saying that they were for change when they realized that Obama was connecting with voters with his message of change (one that actually has policy ideas behind it, by the way), right? Before that, he was running on experience. But that didn’t connect with people the way that change does. Besides, if McCain continued with his “experience” message, people would ask about the Keating Five scandal and the fact that he’s changed his positions on just about everything he stood in for most of his political career. For example, McCain used to be against governmental intrusion into the financial markets, but now he’s all for it.

If you support McCain, fine. But provide examples. If you think that Palin is qualified, fine. But provide examples. Saying that she seems ready to take the job is just ludicrous. Parroting talking points and slogans means that you haven’t done your homework and aren’t prepared to make an informed decision.
