Isn't That Ironic?

A few days ago, new Marriage Amendment was introduced in congress. I should clarify. The Marriage Bills that have been introduced (and eventually, mercifully shot down) have all been about making sure that “the gays” can never marry one another. This, of course, would cause widespread chaos and a new found sense of unity among all Americans, which the Republican party simply cannot abide. It’s in the bible, look it up.

Anyway, the newest version of this hackneyed attempt to make homosexuals of all stripes second-class citizens for-evah comes with an added bit of irony. One part irony on the “marriage” part of the amendment and one part on the “no gays” part. It’s sponsored by Larry Craig (closeted…er, R-Idaho) and David Vitter (cheating bast…um, R-Louisiana). You may remember these two winsome fellas from these two news items, here and here.

Hypocrisy is something that I always find hilarious, especially on such a large, public scale. This whole marriage defense bullshit is such a red herring, though, that it’s really starting to piss me off. For a long time, I just ignored it. But after watching friends have to go all the way up to Canada to be legally married and see story after story of people that have been in committed relationships for years be denied their basic rights, just because some crusty, insecure assholes want to score a point with their homophobic base, I’ve had enough.

Although, it’s pretty damned funny that these two guys are too clueless to realize that they’re going to be the butt of a whole new round of jokes for this one. Dumbasses.

Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."

  1. If someone uses the terms “Gay marriage” and “Controversy” in the same sentence, I cut them off and say “There is no controversy, just a bunch of homophobes who don’t read the constitution.”.

Think of a reason it’s wrong without citing any religious text or using the term unnatural, or a reason that would be unconstitutional.

    See? Nothing.
