Nine More Months…
By Nate • Jan 11th, 2008 • Category: Sports, TVuntil the college football season starts back up.
Yeah, I’m kind of a junkie. I’ll be following the recruiting process until early February, then, after a short break, I will be checking in on spring practices. I’ve started to feel weirder and weirder about this as I get older. I figure I’m a year or two from being creepy. Once you hit 30, it’s time to stop obsessively checking up on athletic, 18 year-old kids, no matter what gender.
After that, it’s pretty low-key until August. I pretty much hibernate through the summer. The near-constant television coverage of golf and tennis helps me stave off waking up and actually doing something.
This past year in college football was one of the most tumultuous and exciting that I can remember. After Michigan lost on opening weekend to Appalachian State, all bets were off. A bunch of #2 ranked teams lost to gigantic underdogs, there were nail biters around every corner and stories of personal triumph were stacked like firewood out back. It was a thoroughly entertaining year from start to finish. That is, until FOX topped off a already stagnant bowl season by tossing four gigantic piles of shit on it, dousing it with gas and setting the whole thing on fire. Not that they were alone. The BCS selections were terrible, pitting the wrong teams in the wrong bowls from top to bottom.
It was a terrible way to end such a memorable season.
But, I want to end on a high note. I’ll soon immerse myself in the remainder of the NBA season and most of my memories from the 2007 college football season will be lost forever, just like my memories of my childhood, how to properly tie a pair of shoes, my middle name and the location of my house. Years of television have left me with little to no memory retention. It’s sad, really.
Anyway, to end the season on a high note and send us off into the weekend with style, I want to share with you just one of the many moments that made this past season one to remember.
Have a good weekend, fearless readers!
