Daily Show on the Mumbai Terror Attacks
By Nate • Dec 3rd, 2008 • Category: TVLong time watchers of The Daily Show will know what I mean when I say that, occasionally, in a fit of humor, they hit the nail on the head, much more so than the regular, real news.
Why is this?
Well, often the only way to deal with some of the horrible, unexplainable shit that happens in the world is with searing humor. This is why comics like Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Bill Hicks are so revered, because humor born of righteous indignation is often the funniest. When we let our guards down to laugh at a joke, we’re more open to the actual truth of the matter. Or something like that. I think that often, stating the actual news of the day, but peppering it with sarcastic laughter, mocking tones and a few “motherf#$kers” and “c*ckgobblers” more than does the trick. Human outrage is universal, just like love.
So, on Monday night, when correspondent John Oliver reported from “Washington” about the Mumbai terror attacks, I think that he summed up the majority of the world’s feelings on the matter much better than an actual newsman could have. Enjoy:

Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."
