Should I trade all my CDs for a free iPod?

With the advent of services like iPodmeister (www.ipodmeister.com), which is a service that will digitize your CDs for you, put them on a new iPod or iPhone and take the CDs as payment, I am wondering is this legal? After reading an article in the Star Tribune about this very thing, I began to think—will the RIAA or worse yet, Lars Ulrich show up at my door if I were to take advantage of this? I am trading the music to get a digitized version of it and they can now sell those same CDs for a profit.
Somewhere there are a group of lawyers yelling at each other because they figure out how to make this not legal.
Who needs Bit Torrent or even illegally burned CDs any more? Just trade in your current buttload of CDs for a new iPod full of all your music. It’s genius.
Should the Captain do this? Should the Captain tempt fate and trade in all his ABBA CDs?
I hope ABBA doesn’t show up at my door to beat the crap out of me. That might be worse than Lars.

I would say you use http://www.metrorip.com. They’ve been in Time Out, so they are reputable. I got my CDs done there, they paid for the shipping also. It didn’t me anything and they took all my CDs that were in good shape, they didn’t pick through my cds like some of the trading companies out there.
I did received my new iPhone3GS last week from ipodmeister… it’s definitely legit. I traded in 400 CDs and got the phone and a check for $30. Super simple process and took less than 2 weeks for the whole process. Go for it.
Let me start by saying that I am NOT an easy guys to please (ask my ex-wife). I had 2,856 CDs in a storage unit in NJ. iPodMeister drove me from my apartment in Manhattan to the storage unit (I don’t have a car). The iPodMeister himself helped me load the boxes in his car. Some of the boxes had to go on the roof (he had some ropes for that purpose). Then he drove me and the CDs through the midtown tunnel back to Times Square. I got an iPod and over $3G out of this deal for my classical music. I have to admit that iPodMeister worked very hard in addition to paying me good money and giving me two free lifts. I would trade those in now, especially since I think ABBA is set to depreciate soon!
