The Day After…
By Nate • Dec 26th, 2007 • Category: General SodSo, it’s the day after Christmas.
Remember when you were a kid in elementary, high school and college and you had that wonderful 2-3 week layoff around the holidays, making this day just another day in a long string of days that you didn’t have to get up before noon? Wasn’t that freakin’ awesome?
Somehow, it took almost six years for me to fully appreciate this fact. I had to go to work today, as I’m assuming many of you did. It blew, didn’t it? The whole day, too. You didn’t want to be there, your coworkers didn’t want to be there, even your bosses didn’t want to be there. It was awful.
I did get called three different names today, though. Mister, Chief and Boss. I have to say, as a 28 year-old, being called Mister was definately new to me. Chief and Boss, while still kind of weird, can be expected. Three different people had three totally different impressions of me as a person during their limited interaction with me today.
The problem is, now I’m having a bit of an identity crisis. Which of these implied personas do I chose to inhabit? Am I the Boss, am I a Chief or am I a Mister? Do I ally myself with the likes of Bruce Springsteen (Boss, natch), Celtics great Robert Parish (Chief, personified) or Fred Rogers (aka Mr. Rogers)? I have no idea what direction to take. I may have to sleep on it.

Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."
