Sod Has A Dream

40 years ago today, Martin Luther King Jr. was shot to death.
I apologize for the lack of humor and snarkiness in this post, but once I realized what today marked, that 40 years ago, one of our greatest civil rights leaders was assassinated, it put me in a decidedly more somber mood.
Maybe it’s because I feel that, were Dr. King alive today, he’d be ashamed of where we are as a society. After all the hard work he had put toward uniting us for a common cause, we’re just as fractured and discordant as ever. I think he’d be ashamed of us and that makes me sad, immeasurably sad.
So, if you would humor me, try and take some time out of your busy schedule today to read up on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Find out something about him and his works that you did not previously know. Educate yourself, even if it only involves watching the video of his “I Have A Dream” speech that I’ve added to this post.
Once you’ve done that, make it a goal to do something today that you think he would have been proud of. I don’t care what it is or how large or small it is, just do something. Even if it’s just holding a door for an elderly woman or donating some money to a charity, do something to make the world a slightly better place. I guarantee that you’ll feel better about yourself and the world you live in, and, more importantly, someone else will, too.

Nate is pretty sure Mark Twain said it best, "Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."
