Sailor Jerry Wins the Spiced Rum Challenge
By admin • Jan 25th, 2008 • Category: Food & Drink, General Sod, Sod that is good![]() |
My recent duties as the technical admin for SodBlog (and idol of millions) have turned me to the bottle, and my sauce of choice has long been spiced rum. So in an attempt to garner corporate sponsorship from an honest booze-peddling corporation, I am professing my love of Sailor Jerry’s spiced rum in what is to be my first blog post.
I’ve had a hankerin’ for Captain Morgan since the mid-nineties, and so I was quite surprised after a recent visit to my local spirit shop to find that there were a whole host of maritime-themed spiced rums out there.
Here’s the list (of what was in my local liquor store, and one I just made up):
- Captain Morgan
- Sailor Jerry
- Admiral Nelson
- Panama Jack
- First Mate Barry

Having never heard of any of these magical flavors, I went with Sailor Jerry, mainly because it had a cool label (see image). Man, this stuff is great! I put it in the classic rum & coke configuration with fantasmic results… Eggnog & rum was a hit… it’s even smooth and refreshing on the rocks.
So… I no longer have a little captain in me, I have a tattooed sailor in me. That doesn’t have the same ring, but you get the idea.

Sailor Jerrys? Isn’t that the most delicious of the spiced rums? Full of essential vitamins and nutrients, I hear.
Once the sponsorship money starts rolling in, I am perfectly okay with being paid in Sailor Jerrys swag.
Yes, yes indeed the yummiest of all spiced rums….and 92 proof as well!!!!
I tried Sailor Jerry a couple of years ago and will say that it is the BEST kept secret in the booze game.
Once you try Sailor Jerry you NEVER drink Cap’t Morgan again……NEVER I SAY!
I have drank cap’t for a long time and and just a few days ago i found Sailor Jerry Navy Rum and I have to say that its way better. Its has great tast. It also says Navy and since im now in the Navy i found my new drink.
Check out this review of Sailor Jerry’s by Denver-based magazine, too. It’s the second item reviewed, about mid-way down the page. Similar sentiments indeed.
I am not very fond of Rum, I have had it few times but it doesn’t taste all that good to me. I found it too sweet with coke. But I have heard about Sailor Jerry from my friends and they say that it is their choice and they don’t give any other Rum not even a try.
Not a drinker (anymore) so in my life I have tried very few rum flavors. I do not know anything about the one you mentioned in the blog but do with some of the others. I have never really liked rum to begin with but think that some of the names coming out Captain Morgan, Sailor Jerry, what they thinking.
