My Growing Disappointment In Presidential Politics And How It Relates To My Favorite Episode Of Growing Pains

By Derek • Feb 1st, 2008 • Category: General Sod, Politics

Disappointment can only truly describe how I feel about presidential politics. I want to point out that I’m not nor will ever be a Republican supporter, just to make that totally clear. That said, I initially got caught up in what was referred to as “Obama-mania” but as time went on and I was able to really listen to the Senator from Illinois I began to realize he was just lobbing the same kind of canned answers out there that any other candidate would. They all just want to be loved. Don’t get me wrong, I thought for a brief moment that Mr. Obama could bring about the kind of sweeping change that this country needs, and maybe he can (just like that episode of Growing Pains when Kirk Cameron studies for a test but just in case he writes the answers on his shoes and inadvertently gets busted for cheating but then later proves he is knowledgeable in the subject and is awarded a passing grade, or maybe that’s totally irrelevant), but as time went by it became clear that any candidate that promises “change” is a damn liar, and a bad one at that. The word change has huge implications, change seems to imply a sort of shuffling around of congressional members, getting some new faces in the house and senate and none of the fat old bastards in congress would give up their seats without a knock down, drag out, old fashioned Washington brawl. Of course on capitol hill all fights are conducted fisticuffs style as is set out by Article 86 sec. 1294 of the Constitution (read it, it’s there). Change also implies a shift in foreign policy, and that seems like a long shot to me. More than anything what disturbs me most about “the young radical” Barack Obama is that in order to boost his appeal with what would appear to be middle aged housewives and the demonic undead he summoned the most evil entity on the entire planet, and probably on other planets and dimensions as well, of course I’m referring to Oprah. That Obama requested the support of the most evil, unholy, godless, fiendish creature known to man (second to Hillary) in Ms. Winfrey escapes me, but I assure you if she gets any more rich and powerful we are all doomed to an eternity of enslavement and servitude to her unholy name. I shudder to think that Oprah actually has ties to Washington, we’re all so totally screwed.
