FDA Warning: Tomatoes - The Red Menace

While standing in the queue at my local Quiznos, I read a sign stating that this establishment has temporarily banned the use of tomatoes on their subs due to a recent FDA warning ‘that a salmonellosis outbreak appears to be linked to consumption of certain types of raw red tomatoes and products containing raw red tomatoes.’

I was elated.

As a long-time opponent of the seedy sandwich/burger topper, I was hopeful that this turn of events would open America’s eyes to the truth: that tomatoes are disgusting.

Whenever I order food, I have to go out of my way to make sure that there are no tomatoes on or in whatever I am about to consume. I’m not allergic… But the taste and texture of those little red bastards makes me want to vomit.

This is a sign: Stop the consumption of tomatoes, or at least stop putting them on every god-damn food item you can think of.

  1. Tomatoes are disgusting? What about Ketchup, Spaghetti Sauce? You sir, are a communist. A condiment-hating communist.

  2. I love ketchup, spaghetti sauce and yes, tomato soup. It’s mainly just raw tomatoes that need to be done away with.

  3. Fried tomatoes go better on a sandwich anyway, but this hardly affects me. I don’t eat raw tomatoes at all, only ketchup and bolognaise sauce. I hate them anyway, it’s really the only fruit that I can live without. What would I put on chips? Steak sauce, that stuff is beyond awesome.

  4. In my country, eating raw tomatoes is just a normal thing. Tomatoes are just a part of a diet. I don’t mean that I eat tomatoes all the time. I don’t understand why anyone would be disgusted in eating tomatoes.

We eat raw tomatoes along with fired fish, or meat. So far, I haven’t heard of anyone getting sick because of it.

  5. I absolutely LOVE tomatoes, especially the baby tomatoes. My aunt and uncle have their own garden and they have the best tomatoes. I love cutting tomatoes into quarters and then put some salt and pepper on them and they taste so good on a hot day. And so many things are made with tomatoes…they are good and healthy for you to have.

  6. There is no harm in having tomatoes even raw ones. There are times when they can be rotten but good healthy ones are fine. I do slice tomatoes in my salads and do put the sliced ones in my layered sandwiches.I have not fallen sick after eating all this. I have yet to see a person who is allergic to tomatoes not even the raw ones, so have tomatoes they are not all that bad.

  7. Although I do not like tomatoes on “every god-damn food item”, I do love them in general. I even take it in salads and they go very well in dishes. I love the “taste and texture” of them. I wonder what any one could hold against these red little yummies. In Indian food, at least cuisine, tomatoes are a part of almost evry thing. And it sure is great.
