Music for people lacking imagination.
By Erik Hagen • Oct 8th, 2008 • Category: MusicIf you’re like me (and I would have to assume that you are), you probably spend a lot of your time wondering why song lyrics can’t be a lot more straightforward. Take, for example, Born in the U.S.A. You’d think it’s about some guy who’s born in the U.S.A., but no, it’s about communism or Ronald Reagan or something. So I appreciate it when someone can step forward and cut through the clutter, like with this video. Presented for your viewing pleasure, the literalist version of A Ha’s classic, Take On Me.
So much better, don’t you think? Now if someone could just explain to me what the hell’s happening when that guy’s slamming into the walls at the end. Is that how cartoon characters become real?
Erik Hagen is comprised of equal parts X and Y chromosomes, snips, snails, puppy dog tails, and a whole lot of water. He was born into this world covered in blood, naked, and slightly hysterical. Very little has changed since.

I always liked this video, and appreciated the work that went into this one to make it seem very realistic. Maybe he is trying to escape his world and enter real life to be with that girl or something. I am not sure either but maybe we can get someone to explain this one.
lol Who’s singing this thing!? The guy can sing! I’ll give him that.
For the ending he started off banging at the comic borders switched to the hallway walls. Something like that I’m guessing. It looked unnecessary though. The guy must be pumped up from just watching footloose and wanted to do some serious action on the video. XD
Hmm, maybe the director or who ever made it just wanted a different kind of Music Video. LOL.
I think the guy just wanted the girl and just want to be in his world or her world. But what I don’t get is what’s the relevance of those pipe wrench guys?
I’d have to disagree with you Erik. I love “twisted” songs. Songs that have poetry and deeper meanings to them are really the ones worth listening. And “Born in the USA” is a wonderful track with great lyrics. In fact, I guess people tend to like rock for the very fact that it has awesome abstract lyrics. Or is it just me?
I remember when this video first came out and thought it was a nice mix between real life and comics. Of course back when the video came out, I was usually drunk, stoned or both so I really didn’t care what the storyline was about. I just liked the song and I still do.
Hmmm someone I think the real lyrics of the song go more with the video… but then again I’m one of those people with an imagination
I would elaborate on how the comic fits in with what he’s saying like ‘you’re all I got to remember’ when well she looses him when she’s out of the comic… ok I’ll stop now. This um..remake is definitely something! I will admit I have no idea how the bouncing of the wall fits in either song.
